Excision of keloids (cutting them out) is a treatment option if intralesional kenalog/ triamcinolone doesn't work. The chief risk of course is the keloid recurrence growing back (recurrence) with an even larger, more symptomatic keloid. Nonetheless, keloids behind the ear and a few other locations can improve by excising them. For keloids behind the ear, we typically ask that you purchase pressure earrings to wear after the surgery which can help keloids from growing back.
